July 4th Celebration

A Local Independence Day Celebration

Please be patient while the movie loads!

The morning of July 5th dawns with gray clouds covering the sky and a light mist of rain. Peggy Morris, co-owner of the park, is oblivious to the weather as she put the final touches on the activities planned for the day. The sun begins to shine just in time to start the sack race, shot-put, beanbag toss and the myriad of other games scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.  Blue skies continue throughout the afternoon and the filled to capacity campground is bathed in warm sunshine. The pool area is filled with laughing; splashing children and horseshoes, fishing, and sunbathing keep the adults occupied throughout the early afternoon.

The tantalizing aroma of hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken on the grill waft on the light breeze, calling the children and adults to lunch from their activities. The professional DJ arrives and lively music soon fills the air. Two White County firetrucks pull in and they send water, pumped from the 2-acre spring fed lake, into a rainbow arch a hundred feet into the air. Dozens, possibly a hundred delighted children run through the spray and slide down the water-covered bank.

In the evening, after a drawing for prizes, the guests moved to the lake area to stake their claim for the best spot to watch the fireworks.  As the sun begins to set, local residents begin to arrive at the campground to watch the fireworks along with the campers. The brilliant display of fireworks, set to music, began with appreciative oohs and aahs from the spectators and ended with thunderous applause. The contented campers make their way to back to their sites and the local residents head to their homes. It is the perfect way to end a fun-filled family oriented holiday.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the firework program on July 4th, 2009, because plans are already underway for the celebration and John promises that it will be bigger and better than ever!
